Turnover Requirements Explained: Why Your Bonus Is Not Really Yours

The app credited you Rs. 500 and it showed up in your balance straight away. So why can you not withdraw it? This is the rule that explains almost every stuck balance in Pakistan, worked out with real numbers.

If you have ever accepted a welcome bonus, a deposit match or a daily reward on an earning app and then found the withdraw button refusing to work, this page is the explanation. It is not a bug and support did not make a mistake. There is a condition attached to that bonus, it was in the terms, and almost nobody reads it.

The condition goes by several names depending on the app: turnover requirement, wagering requirement, rollover, or playthrough. They all mean the same thing, and understanding it properly changes how you look at every bonus you will ever be offered.

Short answer

A turnover requirement means you must stake the bonus a set number of times before anything can be withdrawn. A Rs. 500 bonus with a 20x requirement means Rs. 10,000 has to pass through the games first. Because the games keep a percentage of everything staked, most people lose the bonus while trying to unlock it. That is the design, not bad luck.

What a turnover requirement actually is

When an app gives you bonus money, it is not giving you money. It is giving you permission to play with money that becomes yours only if you meet a condition.

The condition is a multiplier. Written as 10x, 20x, 30x or higher, it tells you how many times the bonus must be staked before the balance unlocks. Staked means put into a game, not lost. Every round you play adds to the total, whether you win or lose that round.

So a Rs. 500 bonus at 20x means Rs. 10,000 of total staking. You do not need Rs. 10,000 in your account to do that. You cycle the same money round after round, and each round counts toward the target. Which sounds achievable, until you look at what is happening to the money while it cycles.

The maths, worked out

Every one of these games keeps a fixed percentage of what gets staked. That is the house edge, and it applies to every round regardless of whether you personally win or lose it. Say the edge is 5 percent, which is a fairly typical figure for this category.

Example: Rs. 500 bonus at 20x

Bonus creditedRs. 500
Turnover multiplier20x
Total you must stakeRs. 10,000
House edge on every stake5%
Expected loss while clearing itRs. 500
On average, clearing the bonus costs you exactly the bonus. The expected value of that Rs. 500 gift is close to zero.

Read that again, because it is the whole point. The bonus is not free money that is hard to access. It is a number on a screen designed to keep you playing long enough for the house edge to absorb it.

Now the version most apps actually use

The example above assumes turnover applies to the bonus only. Many apps apply it to your deposit plus the bonus, which changes everything.

Example: Rs. 1,000 deposit with a Rs. 500 bonus at 20x

Your depositRs. 1,000
Bonus creditedRs. 500
Turnover applies toRs. 1,500
Total you must stakeRs. 30,000
Expected loss at 5% edgeRs. 1,500
The expected loss is your entire deposit plus the entire bonus. Accepting the offer made the outcome worse than depositing without it.

How the multiplier changes things

BonusMultiplierApplied toMust stakeExpected loss at 5%
Rs. 50010xBonus onlyRs. 5,000Rs. 250
Rs. 50020xBonus onlyRs. 10,000Rs. 500
Rs. 50020xRs. 1,000 deposit + bonusRs. 30,000Rs. 1,500
Rs. 50030xRs. 1,000 deposit + bonusRs. 45,000Rs. 2,250
Rs. 2,00030xRs. 5,000 deposit + bonusRs. 210,000Rs. 10,500

The bigger the bonus, the bigger the trap. A large welcome offer is not generosity, it is a larger turnover obligation attached to a larger deposit.

Six rules inside the terms that catch people out

1 Game weighting

Not every game counts the same. Slots and spin games often count 100 percent, while card games, colour prediction or anything with better odds may count only 10 or 20 percent, and some games are excluded completely.

If your game counts at 10 percent, a Rs. 10,000 turnover target actually needs Rs. 100,000 of staking. People often play the game they are best at without realising it barely moves the progress bar.

2 Maximum bet while wagering

There is usually a cap on how much you can stake per round while a bonus is active, often something like Rs. 100 or Rs. 200. Exceed it once, even accidentally, and the bonus plus everything won from it can be voided. This rule exists specifically to stop people clearing turnover quickly with large bets.

3 Expiry windows

Bonuses commonly expire in 7, 14 or 30 days. If turnover is not complete by then, the bonus and any winnings attached to it disappear. Short windows on high multipliers are the combination that forces people to play faster and bigger, which is exactly the behaviour that loses money.

4 Sticky bonuses that lock your own money too

On many apps the bonus and your real deposit merge into a single balance the moment you accept. Until turnover is met, none of it can be withdrawn, including the money you put in yourself. This is why people find their own Rs. 2,000 deposit frozen behind a Rs. 300 bonus they never wanted.

5 Winnings caps

Some terms limit how much can be withdrawn from bonus play regardless of what you win. Win Rs. 40,000 from a bonus with a Rs. 5,000 cap and Rs. 35,000 of it simply vanishes when you try to cash out.

6 Cancelling forfeits everything

You can often cancel a bonus to free your deposit, but doing so usually voids anything won while it was active. The app will not offer this option clearly. You have to find it, and by then the numbers may have already moved against you.

How to find your actual status right now

Open the app and look in the wallet, bonus or promotions section for a progress bar or a figure labelled wagering, turnover, rollover or playthrough. You want three numbers: your withdrawable cash balance (not total balance), the turnover target, and how much you have completed.

If the app does not show you these numbers anywhere, that on its own tells you something about the operator.

So should you ever accept a bonus?

The honest answer is that the question is a distraction. Bonuses are not the problem, they are a symptom. Even with no bonus at all, the house edge means the app keeps a percentage of everything staked, and playing long enough guarantees a loss. A bonus just accelerates the process by requiring you to stake more.

What is worth taking from this page is narrower and more useful: a bonus is never free money, a larger bonus is a larger obligation rather than a larger gift, and accepting one can lock up money you deposited yourself. If you are already playing, read the terms before tapping claim, because that tap is a contract.

The related problem of not being able to withdraw at all is covered in earning app withdrawal not working, and the wider picture is in our main guide to online earning apps in Pakistan.

Warning signs in bonus terms

  • The multiplier is not stated anywhere visible. If you have to hunt for it, that is deliberate.
  • Turnover applies to deposit plus bonus. This roughly triples the obligation compared to bonus only terms.
  • Multipliers above 30x. At that level the offer is designed not to be cleared.
  • Game weighting is hidden or vague. No table showing what counts is a bad sign.
  • The terms can be changed without notice. Common wording, and it means nothing you were told is fixed.
  • You were auto enrolled. If the bonus was applied without you accepting it and it locked your deposit, that is a serious red flag. See how to check if an earning app is fake.
Remember there is no regulator here

In licensed markets, bonus terms have to meet fairness rules and there is a body you can complain to. Real money gambling is illegal in Pakistan under the Prevention of Gambling Act, 1977, so these operators are not licensed here, nobody supervises their terms, and there is no complaints route if they are applied unfairly.

If this has stopped being about money

If you are borrowing to clear a turnover target, hiding losses from family, or losing sleep over a balance, that is a health issue and it is treatable. Talk to a doctor or a mental health professional. Gamblers Anonymous runs free online meetings you can join from Pakistan.

Common questions

Does a losing round still count toward turnover?

Yes. Turnover counts what you stake, not what you win or lose. Every round adds to the total. The problem is that your balance shrinks as you go, so most people run out of money before the target is reached.

What is a reasonable turnover multiplier?

In regulated markets, 10x to 20x applied to the bonus only is considered normal and anything above 35x is generally viewed as unfair. Unlicensed apps frequently use 30x or more applied to deposit plus bonus, which is far harsher than it sounds.

Can I cancel a bonus and withdraw my own deposit?

Sometimes, and the option is usually buried in the bonus or wallet section. Cancelling normally forfeits anything won while the bonus was active, so check what your balance actually consists of before doing it.

Why does my progress bar move so slowly?

Almost always game weighting. If the game you are playing contributes 10 percent, you need to stake ten times the headline figure. Look for the weighting table in the bonus terms.

The app changed the terms after I claimed. Is that allowed?

Most of these terms include a clause letting the operator change them at any time, and since they are not licensed in Pakistan there is no regulator to challenge it. Practically, nothing you were told at signup is guaranteed to stay true.

Is there any strategy to clear turnover safely?

No. The house edge applies to every round, so more staking means more expected loss. Approaches that look like they reduce risk, such as covering both sides of a bet, usually breach the maximum bet or excluded game rules and void the bonus.
